Toyota Tanzania launches the New Generation

Toyota Tanzania Ltd, the country?s leading automobile distributor, officially launched the new generation Toyota Hilux at a glittering function at the Kilimanjaro Kempinski Hotel on Friday November 11th 2005.

Speakers at the launch, Hatim Karimjee, Chairman of Toyota Tanzania Ltd spoke about the history of the Karimjee family in the automobile business in Tanzania. The Guest of Honor, His Excellency, Katsuya Ikeda Ambassador of Japan, complimented Toyota Tanzania for their excellent performance over the years and wished the company all success in the future.

The latest generation Hilux is the latest development from Toyota setting new global standards in production and quality. The new generation Hilux is being assembled in Durban, South Africa where Toyota has invested millions of US Dollars in recent years to set a new standard in global automotive quality. This new level of quality is for the first time, on a par with that of Japan. Testimony to this is that the TSAM South Africa plant will now be exporting the new Hilux not only to Africa but also to Europe?s markets.

Toyota claims that the latest Hilux goes "beyond the process" of vehicle evolution. This vehicle is also the result of Toyota's revolutionary IMV (Innovative International Multi-purpose Vehicle) project aimed at global production and component sourcing that brings with it high manufacturing efficiencies and the opportunity to improve affordability.

The design philosophy for this new Hilux required the Toyota engineering group working with executive chief engineer Kaoru Hosokawa to go beyond existing customer expectations and set a new global standard in the light commercial vehicle market.

The New Generation Hilux 4-wheel drive double cabin and single cabin have been restyled, re-engineered and re-sized and is the true multi-purpose off-road and on-road vehicle that is literally beyond tough. The new Hilux models push the boundaries for versatility, styling, safety, stability and space and power with 6 class leading features:

1. More Power

The new Hilux has more power due to a bigger engine, now a 3-litre diesel engine (old Hilux 2.8l).

2. More Strength & Stability

The new Hilux is tougher and has a better ride due to its new chassis platform with a high rigid frame to improve handling & performance whilst minimizing vibration and road noise in the cabin.

3. More Space

The new Hilux can carry more load as it has the largest cargo deck in its class. In addition the new Hilux has the largest body size in its class with the length, width and height of the double cabin and single vehicles increased.

4. More Comfort

The new Hilux has more comfort due to the largest interior cabin space in its class.

5. More Aerodynamics

The new Hilux has a completely new and restyled exterior for better ride and handling.

6. Unparalleled Safety

Last but not least it is the safest multipurpose vehicle on the road thanks to features such as the Hilux?s GOA body structure that helps absorb impact energy in a collision, front airbags, side impact beams and ABS amongst many others.

In addition, the new duty paid price for the new generation Hilux double cabin is 23% less than the old Hilux d/c model and for the single cabin it is 18% less than the old Hilux s/c model.

The new generation Hilux retains the range's reputation of reliability and durability. As before it feels solid and capable, and the car?s handsome and manicured features shouldn?t deceive customers. It is as tough and solid as any Hilux before it.
